APRIL FOOLS 2010
The top music-related gags of this year
Unfortuantely, since we only update on an evenings, and the roolz state that it's gotta be before midday, we couldn't get to fool you this year. What? Yeah I know it's an excuse, but I'm with Weird Al here. It's amateur night... err, morning.
Anyways, before we all head off for Easter, here's some of our favourite music-related April Fools gags from this year.
The Nu-PRP.com
Sadly no longer online
The PRP posted up a splash page announcing that they would be relaunching as a nu-metal themed website to cash in on the trend - complete with baseball cap on their eagle logo. Chances of being fooled? Practically zero, but did provide one of the biggest laughs of the day. Which brings us neatly on to...
Metal Hammer Nu-Keyboard Special
http://www.metalhammer.co.uk/news/metal-hammer-nu-metal-keyboard-special-out-next-year/
It's a cheap laugh, but fuck it. Have a look at this mocked up cover, including cheesy "in it for the noo-key" joke, for the "436 page mega special paying tribute to the key-tapping warriors who made spring 1996 to late autumn 1998 what is was". All three of them.
TotalRock announces: Petallica
Taken from the TotalRock mailout, the website announced that Metallica were planning to record the voices of their various pets for a new project called Petallica. I was pretty gutted when I realised this was an April Fool, as I'd have been more likely to buy this than any of their more recent albums.
Metal Sucks: Howard Jones to be replaced by Tommy Vext
It's a long link, deal with it
Probably the second most convincing story we came across that day, Metal Sucks decided to go with the recent controversy surrounding Howard Jones' departure from the Killswitch Engage US tour. Having said that, it did make me wonder what the hell happened to Tommy Vext, before realising I didn't give a shit.
Metal Underground April Fools Extravaganza
Various Links
A whole load of great gag stories graced the site this year, including one claiming Cradle Of Filth were soundtracking the new movie Twilight: Eclipse and another about Varg Vikernes from Burzum advertising for Pepsi, with the additional revelation that "AC/DC guitarist Angus Young will be appearing in a series of commercials for British supermarket chain Asda's "Back To School" sale this Summer. The most laugh out loud gags of the day, but the award for the most convincing still goes to the next one...
*2010 WINNER* No Idea Records reveal new Hot Water Music Album 'Redemption'
http://www.noidearecords.com
It almost looked genuine at first, but then little clues in the blurb just gave this one away. Kudos to No Idea for this subtle little one that was actually seen on some websites posted as genuine news, despite the fact that all purchase links and even the cover image linked to various shredding videos by the likes of Kiss, The Rolling Stones and Santana. Nice work, guys and gals!
