RM ROUNDUP: QOTSA, RATM, KINGS OF LEON, JESU, DEFTONES, MOGWAI, REFUSED, FFAF, ALEXISONFIRE... 10:23am, 4 Aug 2010
Last week we brought you news of the next big thing in Avian Rock, GU MEDICINE collaborator Ricky the Penguin. This week, it's the turn of his music critic equivalent...
This week, KINGS OF LEON illustrate their cross-species appeal, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE make a cross-borders appeal and LOVAGE wait on a vocal appeal. There's news of new stuff from JESU, new dates from MOGWAI, and a new zine from FFAF's Matt Davies-Kreye. TIGER PLEASE impress through adversity. MOGWAI plan to do the same, and two classics from REFUSED & QOTSA take our top review spots (now's the time to start making your doomsday predictions for rock, conspiracy theorists). Plus ALEXISONFIRE, FUCKED UP, TIGER PLEASE, REEL BIG FISH, PENDULUM, CATHEDRAL, HORSEBACK, KERRANG! AWARDS and more. Not bad for silly season.
Finally just a wee note that news updates are going to be sporadic for the next couple of weeks, as BossMidget takes her first holiday since 2005, and the RM metamorphosis begins. On the way, there's our SONISPHERE coverage, BILBAO BBK LIVE and BLOODSTOCK, so...
We'll be in touch. Don't be strangers.

In the meantime, a bumper issue from the last couple of weeks, during which MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN and BILLY HOWERDEL covered 'Bohemian Rhapsody', THE VASELINES decided they'd waited long enough and EELS announced Tomorrow Morning. RM ROUNDUP: ISIS, FAR, EARTHTONE9, MOGWAI, BANQUET RECORDS, KIGH... 9:40pm, 21 May 2010
It's been a bit of a bummer of a week, with the passing of RONNIE JAMES DIO, and ISIS deciding to go their seperate ways. We may have been listening to a bit too much of the new HARVEY MILK album. On the other hand, there's HOLE and STONE TEMPLE PILOTS efforts - now those are depressing records.
This week, we chat to BANQUET RECORDS' Jon Tolley about how record stores can not only survive, but really make a difference to their local scene. There's updates on new releases from the likes of THE DAMNED THINGS, OCEANSIZE, MOGWAI. EARTHTONE9 emerge again (and the RM senior staffers lose ten years). There's music and more from FAR, HOW TO DESTROY ANGELS and BAD RELIGION. We've got reviews of KIDS IN GLASS HOUSES, CYNIC, JAIRUS, NOUMENON, and lots more. We're working on the contests stuff, so hopefully we'll have some new stuff for you soon. In the meantime, the best of the rest is below.

RM ROUNDUP: RATM, MIKE PATTON, FAR, THE BLED, TRASH TALK, GODFLESH, FOTL, PUSCIFER... 12:34am, 15 May 2010
All change this week, as THE BLED, OH SLEEPER and FUTURE OF THE LEFT all announce departures from their line-ups. And the most pants news of all, top showbiz entertainer FRANK SIDEBOTTOM has been diagnosed with cancer! If any of that's left you feeling a little delicate, then TRASH TALK and THE NATIONAL have been attempting to make up for it, BOTH pulling 5/5 releases out of the hat. And if that's not enough for you, MIKE PATTON is not only working on a load of new TOMAHAWK and FANTOMAS stuff, but he's got a new band in the works. There's also stuff from FAR, THE HOLD STEADY, CULT OF LUNA, AS I LAY DYING, WILL HAVEN, GODFLESH, COMEBACK KID, PUSCIFER, a new column from JACK ALCOPOP... And while we're not huge on trends, here's one you can't ignore - DEATH COUNTRY. You heard it here fifth or sixth.
Before we go, just a wee atta-boy to FRANK TURNER, who we've just learned was added to GREEN DAY's gigs at Wembley and the LCCC this Summer. You may remember we first featured Frank's solo stuff back when he was playing toilet venues just a few years ago. It's days like this that make this worth doing.

RM ROUNDUP: TOOL, FAITH NO MORE, SOUNDWAVE 2010 REPORT, SOTY, GODSPEED YOU BLACK EMPEROR 11:28pm, 16 Apr 2010
Never say never: This week, not only did Adam Lazzara find himself explaining why Noland and Cooper are back in TAKING BACK SUNDAY, but FAITH NO MORE were joined onstage by none other than CHUCK MOSLEY. If it wasn't for the footage below, I wouldn't have believed it either. With this run of luck, maybe TOOL'll even get together to write again... wait, what?

GLASSJAW head back to the UK, CONVERGE reveal a new DVD trailer, CYPRESS HILL, SICK OF IT ALL & J MASCIS new outfit SWEET APPLE all acquit themselves well with their new records. And there's our great new competition where you can meet STORY OF THE YEAR on their current UK tour. Not bad, eh?
Also don't forget tomorrow (17th April) is RECORD STORE DAY. Check out our guide to this year's exclusive releases, then head along to your local independent record store and get yourself something special.

RM ROUNDUP: REFUSED, PRIMUS, DEFTONES, JUCIFER, JOSH HOMME, WALTER SCHRIEFELS 12:08am, 28 Mar 2010
Are they or aren't they? Three times this week we've been wondering this. First there was KORN and the possible signing to ROADRUNNER revealed in a webchat. Then there was TRENT REZNOR's recording session captions - we can expect a record, but for for which project? And now changes to REFUSED's official website has set rumours going all over the interwubz. Patience, all will be revealed soon. We hope.
This week, DEFTONES give us more artwork, DOWNLOAD gives us more bands, and EVERY TIME I DIE give us tour dates. ROLO TOMASSI reveal the benefits of ignoring careers advice, and JULIE WEIR, the woman who discovered LOSTPROPHETS, tells us why the neighbours might regret her purchase of a Wii. DAUGHTERS say their possible goodbyes in style, 108 definitely say theirs with religious convictions, and PRIMUS look like they're changing theirs to hello. REVEREND PEYTON gets some persimmons, WHITE STRIPES get northern exposure, and JUCIFER get dark...er than before in our **RM EXCLUSIVE**. And finally, JOSH HOMME isn't handing out Ferrero Rocher, and RICHARD E. GRANT is a robot.
Plus there's two brand new competitions from WALTER SCHRIEFELS and VISIBLE NOISE, and loads more...

RM ROUNDUP: FEAR FACTORY, ATARI TEENAGE RIOT, DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, TRIVIUM, BURZUM... 7:18pm, 21 Mar 2010
You might notice a decidedly metallic taste to this week's update. This is because you are licking a computer. We don't recommend doing that.
If you like a heavier riff, though, you might be interested in these. With the release of Belus, BURZUM's first post-prison release, RM's Chris Ward explores why the musician remains such a vital force in the scene - plus there's our verdict on the album. In the latest ALT.GAMING installment, Matt Heafy of TRIVIUM talks about his long-standing love of the 'Final Fantasy' series, and why contributing music to video games can be a double edged sword. We also review the new CATHEDRAL release and there's our exclusive FEAR FACTORY photo gallery and live review.
Elsewhere ATARI TEENAGE RIOT return and JESU splits (sort of...). GREG GRAFFIN and SCROOBIUS PIP plan book releases, while FAITH NO MORE get into comics. COHEED & CAMBRIA and THE BANNER soundtrack some great art, while DAVE GROHL drinks way too much coffee. There's reviews of releases by SERJ TANKIAN, DROPKICK MURPHYS, CHRIS T-T, JONSI...
And finally, there's our verdict on next week's stunning new DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN album 'Option Paralysis'...

RM ROUNDUP: DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, ALICE IN CHAINS, DEFTONES, SOUNDGARDEN, HIGH ON FIRE... 9:52pm, 5 Mar 2010
On the day of DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN's London shows - DILLINGER DAY, as it was known - I remember sitting in the office, exchanging a series of ever more excited texts from Dan about his interview with Liam and Jeff, and how psyched he was for the show he was queuing for, their date at the Camden Barfly. So I'm pleased to finally be able to mail you guys our new interview with the boys, plus Dan's review of the show with EXCLUSIVE shots from Pearl. When this album drops later in the month, you're going to be wiping us off the walls.
Elsewhere, SOUNDGARDEN's first material in years will be... a reissue, PETE WENTZ shaves again and 65DAYSOFSTATIC have a zen week. ALICE IN CHAINS finish their story, THE POSTMAN SYNDROME finish their album, DEFTONES finish their tracklist. (DAMN) THIS DESERT AIR tease us, CAESARS ROME wow us, THE AUTOMATIC impress us, and PG. LOST continue to be everything we want and more. And we finally get together some contests for you, courtesy of HIGH ON FIRE and OUTCRY COLLECTIVE.

Happy St. David's Day to all our Welsh readers! This week we learned the value of patience, as MIKE PATTON emails us about Crash Bandicoot, ISIS side-project RED SPAROWES confirm a UK release, and DEFTONES reveal the first material from 'Diamond Eyes'. We also celebrate news of the first GET UP KIDS material in 6 years - ROLO TOMASSI and SHARKS bring the tunes, VINNIE PAUL is bringing the hors d'oeuvres and SCREAMING MALDINI the playboy bunnies. Unfortunately we end on a sad note as Dan's interview curse claims THE FALL OF TROY. Watch out, GALLOWS & DEP...

RM ROUNDUP: FAR, DEFTONES, BRAND NEW, ROB ZOMBIE, ENTER SHIKARI... 10:15pm, 19 Feb 2010
No, we haven't disappeared off the face of the earth, but it's been such an amazing last few weeks we've hardly had time to catch our breath. There was that BRAND NEW / GLASSJAW / THRICE show at Wembley, the AT THE GATES documentary premier, the DOWNLOAD 2010 headliners announced, DILLINGER day (when DEP played two shows in a day in the capital - stay tuned for Dan's upcoming interview), the CAPDOWN and GODFLESH reunions, all that time we spent queuing for RATM tickets (did you get yours?), news on the upcoming CIRCA SURVIVE record - and some very special news from one of the most important metal bands of all time... Ah, you'll see soon...
In the meantime, FAR tell us about the influence of Chi Cheng and THE SAFETY FIRE tell us about strippers. ENTER SHIKARI try to destroy landmarks, and ALEXISONFIRE fans damage barriers. GLASSJAW don't impress as much as BRAND NEW, DEFTONES reveal their bling, FEAR FACTORY and ROB ZOMBIE make impressive returns - and so do CAPDOWN. MAYNARD brings back Major Douche, JONSÍ grows wings, J. MASCIS saves a life, and MESHUGGAH & LADY GAGA produce the most disturbing mashup ever. And lots more, or we wouldn't need an entire mailout for it!

RM ROUNDUP: MOGWAI, LOSTPROPHETS, DSHS, BTBAM, FUCKED UP, ORANGE GOBLIN, TINDERSTICKS... 1:05am, 23 Jan 2010
While the US is rocked by the epic battle between Conan The Barbarian and the giant from Jack and the Beanstalk, and I try to avoid tasteless 'rocking Haiti' jokes, here's what's been on RM in the last fortnight.
ROB ZOMBIE solves murders, POLYSICS go on a gap year, and FAIR TO MIDLAND destroy their van. LOSTPROPHETS don't wow us as much as FUCKED UP, TINDERSTICKS and IHSAHN. Upcoming records from RED SPAROWES, WALTER SCHRIEFELS and CRIME IN STEREO get us excited, and THE RESURRECTION SORROW tell us about 'Hour Of The Wolf'. NICK KLECZEWSKI talks about his work on the recent stunning documentary on THE SNAKE THE CROSS THE CROWN, while THE BRONX give us a mini one for free, and details of the upcoming in-depth one from AT THE GATES emerge. There's a full live set from BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME, MOGWAI unveil plans for their upcoming premier, and we've been to see DEVIL SOLD HIS SOUL, ORANGE GOBLIN and more...
